End Child Poverty

4in10: The End Child Poverty London Project aims to raise public awareness of the extent of child poverty in the capital and works with voluntary and community organisations to tackle the specific child poverty challenges London faces. 4in10 identifies projects and schemes that have a positive impact on the lives of London children and families living in poverty, encouraging and supporting organisations to share ideas and pool expertise across the capital. In addition, 4in10 works with community and voluntary organisations to develop strong borough-specific campaigns that will look to achieve real change locally. 4in10 is supporting the Need Not Greed campaign. For many poor families ‘cash-in-hand’ work can provide much needed additional money required to afford basics other families take for granted, such as birthday presents and winter heating. However, cash in hand work is almost always poorly paid and low skilled with no job security. This leaves parents trapped in poverty. Support for workers in the transition from ‘cash-in-hand’ to legal employment would be an important step in the battle to end child poverty in London, and indeed the UK as a whole.
